WENTWORTH, N.C. (Romero Report) — A Greensboro man is behind bars after a high-speed vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash on May 9.
The incident unfolded around 7 p.m. when a Rockingham County Deputy spotted a Red Nissan 370Z traveling recklessly at a high rate of speed near the Jacobs Creek Volunteer Fire Department on NC 704.
The deputy initiated a vehicle stop, but the Nissan fled, starting a pursuit, according to a news release.
During the chase, the suspect vehicle reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.
Authorities said the pursuit came to an end when the Nissan lost control while navigating a curve at NC 65 near DJ Drive in the town of Wentworth, crashing into a power pole.
Following the crash, the vehicle continued for approximately 100 yards, colliding with a parked vehicle on DJ Drive before striking another power pole and coming to a stop.
The deputy got the driver and sole occupant, identified as Vegas Alexander Roberts, 22, of Hines Chapel Road in Greensboro, N.C., out from the wreckage.
Roberts was treated for minor injuries at the scene and then taken into custody.
Roberts faces charges including felony fleeing to elude arrest and carrying a concealed firearm.
Upon his arrest, deputies discovered a firearm concealed on Roberts’ person and another firearm concealed in a backpack inside the vehicle, the release said.
Roberts is currently held at the Rockingham County Jail under a $120,000 secured bond.
