
Franklin County deputies responded to a call for a missing 89-year-old woman shortly after midnight on May 9 in Ferrum.
The woman had been reported missing by her husband.
Deputy Gaetano and his K9 partner, Bono, were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, they retrieved a scent article from the residence and began tracking.
Authorities said that thanks to the efficient teamwork of the K9 unit, the team successfully located the woman in a nearby wooded area, where she was experiencing a medical emergency.
“The quick response of deputies and medical personnel, paired with the tracking skills of K9 Bono and Deputy Gaetano, brought this incident to a positive resolution,” the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office wrote in Facebook post.
