HENRY COUNTY, Va. (Romero Report) — Henry County Investigator Corey Waddell and his K9 partner, Raja, were selected to receive the prestigious Valor Award for Bravery and Heroism in the line of duty.

The award, given by the North American Police Work Dog Association, recognizes the actions of Waddell and Raja on the night of April 19, 2022.

The incident occurred when Investigator Waddell and another deputy confronted an armed suspect with multiple outstanding felony warrants, who resisted arrest and tried to fight them.

Despite the suspect’s attempts, Raja’s actions allowed the law enforcement officers to arrest the suspect without further incident, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

“The Henry County Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate Investigator Waddell and K9 Raja for their Valor Award,” the sheriff’s office wrote in the post. “We would also like to express our gratitude to the North American Police Work Dog Association and Master Trainer Shelly Gutierrez for their dedication and training provided to each K9 handler and their K9 partners.”
