MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Romero Report) — Attendees of the Rooster Walk Music & Arts Festival should keep an eye out for new murals created by talented advanced art students from Martinsville High School.

These vibrant pieces will be displayed throughout the festival, which will be held from May 23 to 26 at Pops Farm in Martinsville.

Rooster Walk was founded in memory of two Martinsville High School graduates, Edwin “the Rooster” Penn and Walker Shank, who both passed away in their 20s, according to Martinsville City Public Schools.

Their friends, also MHS alumni, started the festival to honor their legacy.

Proceeds from the festival provide a four-year scholarship for a graduating MHS senior each year and have expanded to include donations of refurbished instruments to the band programs of Martinsville and Henry County schools.

“We are grateful for our friends at Rooster Walk for continuing to support our schools and students, and we’re delighted that artwork from MHS students will now be a part of the festival for many years to come,” MCPS wrote in a Facebook post on May 20.

Festival-goers are encouraged to snap selfies with the murals and tag school district on social media.
