PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (Romero Report) — A 50-year-old man faces a handful of charges for the murder of another man in Pittsylvania County on May 30.

Deputies were dispatched around 8:15 p.m. to the 1600 block of Shula Drive in Hurt, following a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies say they found 28-year-old Jimmy Dee Hardwick, of Hurt, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Despite medical aid, Hardwick died at the scene, according to authorities.

Barry David Davis, of Gretna, fled the scene before deputies arrived, but was later found and taken into custody without incident after a search of the area.

Davis faces these charges:

  • Murder in the second degree
  • Reckless handling of firearms
  • Use or display of firearm in committing felony
  • Possession of firearm by felon
  • Shooting from or in a motor vehicle as to endanger persons

He is in the Pittsylvania County Jail without bond.

Hardwick’s body will be transported to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause and manner of death.

Gretna Police Department officers and the commonwealth’s attorney assisted in the investigation.
