HENRY COUNTY, Va. (Romero Report) — A homeless man in a reportedly stolen car from Caswell County, North Carolina led authorities from multiple jurisdictions on a high-speed chase on June 3.

At around 10:30 a.m., the Henry County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by Rockingham County, NC authorities about a 2007 yellow Toyota Prius heading towards Virginia on Axton Road.

Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis said one of his deputies intercepted the Toyota, which was speeding, and pursued it onto A.L. Philpott Highway into Pittsylvania County.

While on A.L. Philpott Highway, the car swerved recklessly in and out of traffic, with speeds reaching 100 miles per hour, Sheriff Davis said.

The pursuit reached Stoney Mill Road, a deputy conducted a successful PIT maneuver and the driver fled on foot into the surrounding woods, according to authorities.

Law enforcement apprehended the driver, Marcus Ledell Prunty, 51, of Danville, and the Toyota’s four other occupants.

According to Rockingham County, NC deputies, the four passengers of the car stated they had tried repeatedly to get the driver to stop, and he refused, holding them against their will.

Prunty was charged with felony eluding and DUI in Henry County.

In Rockingham County, NC, he faces one count of felony flee to elude and four counts of second degree kidnapping.

He is currently being held in the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond, awaiting extradition on these charges.

The Caswell County, NC Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, and Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries were also involved in this pursuit.
