
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (Romero Report) — Ronald Mitchell Stone Sr., a longtime community servant in Franklin and Henry counties, passed away on June 3 after battling medical issues for some time.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said in Facebook post that Stone joined the Citizens on Patrol (COPS) program in 2019 alongside his wife Anne, and both were known for their constant smiles and kind words.
His contributions to the community extended far beyond his participation in the COPS program.
From 1965 to 2010, he held various roles in community service, including Funeral Director and Employee at Stone Funeral Home, Owner and Operator of Stone Ambulance Services, Director of Emergency Medical Services for Martinsville Speedway, and operator of Stone Convalescent Supply.
Stone dedicated over 60 years to emergency medical services, earning recognition as a lifetime member of the Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad.
He was an elder and deacon of Stone Memorial Christian Church.
Stone served on many community board of directors including Virginia Governor’s Advisory Council for EMS, Virginia Transportation Safety Board, Crime Stoppers, Martinsville- Henry County Exchange Club and Martinsville-Henry County Red Cross.
He was a member of the American Red Cross for more than 40 years and was a first aid/CPR instructor.
