
REIDSVILLE, N.C. (Romero Report) — Casey Elrod has been named principal at Reidsville Middle School.
During college, Elrod served as a substitute teacher and coach before transitioning to a role in the public health sector.
In the mid-2000s, he began teaching and coaching in Rockingham County Schools.
After 12 years at the middle and high school levels in Reidsville, he started a master’s program in school administration at UNC-Chapel Hill and completed his principal internship at Wentworth Elementary.
Despite earning his administrative licensure, Elrod chose to complete doctoral coursework before pursuing an administrative position.
While conducting research for his superintendent licensure, he spent two years teaching and assisting with administrative duties at Score in the Booker T. Washington Learning Center.
Elrod has taught high school chemistry, physics, and earth science at Rockingham County High School and gained administrative experience at Holmes Middle School in 2021-2022.
Most recently, he served as assistant principal and interim principal at Dalton L. McMichael High School.
Elrod is currently defending his dissertation to complete a doctorate in educational leadership and administration from UNC-Chapel Hill.
He teaches courses at UNC’s Peabody School of Education, focusing on the Thrive Program for student success at research universities.
Elrod also has a coaching record; winning 15 basketball conference championships in 19 years and over 30 conference and state championships in various sports.
He has also served as a college basketball analyst and color commentator for networks such as ESPN, FOX, The ACC Network, and the GoHeels Network.
