MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Romero Report) — The community is invited to an evening of R&B and pop favorites, along with original tunes to benefit Da Capo Virginia.

Da Capo Operations Director and Laurel Park Middle School Choral Director Alyssa Prillaman and her friends will perform at The Ground Floor, 1 East Church Street in Martinsville, on June 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“I’m really excited to show my community a different side of myself that some know and some don’t. Many people know me as a music educator and director with and Henry County Public Schools and Da Capo Virginia, but not everyone knows that I am a performer at heart as well. My passions for songwriting and arranging, along with singing and playing, are what put the fire in my heart to help others discover that same feeling— that feeling of belonging, safety, and freedom. Music and the arts truly bring out the best in people,” Prillaman told the Romero Report.

All proceeds will benefit the nonprofit organization that offers choirs, classes, and concerts for students of all ability levels, guided by their passion and model of inclusive excellence.

“This event is a chance not only for you to come out and hear some incredibly gifted musicians perform, especially if you’re a pop/R&B fan, but also for you to connect with your community and learn more about an organization looking to bring more of this sort of thing to Martinsville-Henry County: positivity, creativity, inclusion, and more. Da Capo is the real deal—we promise you that,” Prillaman added.

Their programs include Da Capo Inspire, a private K-12 inclusionary arts integration center; Vivo, an in-school instructional program for special needs students; and Haven of Praise, a community gospel ensemble.

Admission is free, but donations are graciously accepted.

Those interested in donating ahead of the event can do so online at dacapova.org.
