HENRY COUNTY, Va. (Romero Report) — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has six new Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) instructors.

These deputies graduated on June 14 from the Virginia D.A.R.E. Training Center in Culpeper after successfully completing a two-week training course.

Sheriff Wayne Davis thanked the deputies for their dedication to serving the community and protecting our children.

“These deputies volunteered to make personal sacrifices, spending two weeks away from their own families, to ensure that Henry County can offer the D.A.R.E. program to our students,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post.

The newly trained deputies are now prepared to engage with the youth, providing education on critical topics such as drug and alcohol awareness, vaping, online and social media safety, bullying prevention, and teen mental health.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, this modern-day D.A.R.E. curriculum is the most comprehensive K-12 prevention education program globally, focusing on life skills education to foster good decision-making for a safe and healthy life.

“The need to educate the youth of this community about these issues is paramount to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote. “We believe that educating our youth about these dangers is the first step in preventing the next generation of substance abusers. Invest in our youth; they are the future of this community.”
