REIDSVILLE, N.C. (Romero Report) — The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office arrested a registered sex offender following a cybertip on June 18.

After getting the tip from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, investigators executed a search warrant in the 100 block of Circle Loop in Reidsville.

Following the search, Jeffrey Wayne Whitaker, 63, of the same address, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Whitaker is currently listed on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry for a June 1982 conviction in Forsyth County for second-degree sex offense.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Invictus Task Force also provided assistance in this ongoing investigation.

He was taken before the magistrate and received no bond due to the fact that this arrest occurred while he was already on pretrial release for an indecent exposure charge, for which he is awaiting trial.
