
AXTON, Va. (Romero Report) — Two people are dead and a suspect is in custody after a shooting in Axton.
Authorities were called to the 400 block of River Ridge Road around 9:30 p.m. on June 25 for the incident.
When deputies got there, they said they found 39-year-old Ashley Marie Roberts and 41-year-old William Jason Roberts unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds outside the residence.
The victims, both from Roanoke, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, 65-year-old William Lester Roberts, was taken into custody without incident.

He has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and one count of discharging firearms within a dwelling.
He is being held without bond in the county Jail.
William was the suspect’s son and Ashley was his the daughter-in-law, according to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.
Their bodies have been transported to the medical examiner’s office for autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
The case remains under investigation, and no further details are available at this time, the Sheriff’s Office said.
