ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (Romero Report) — Investigators charged two people in connection with an attempt to smuggle contraband into the Rockingham County Detention Center on July 2.

Brianna Louise Cochran, 23, of Pecan Road in Reidsville, was charged with the delivery of a schedule III controlled substance and possessing a controlled substance at a local confinement facility.

Cochran was arrested and placed in the detention center under a $25,000 secured bond.

Devonte Kiewan McCain, 32, is currently an inmate at the facility and was the intended recipient of the contraband, according to authorities.

McCain was charged with conspiracy to deliver a schedule III controlled substance and conspiracy to possess a controlled substance at a local confinement facility.

He was issued a $40,000 secured bond on these new charges.

The sheriff’s office said the contraband was identified, intercepted, and confiscated before reaching the inmate housing area of the jail facility.

Effective July 2, medications of any kind brought to the detention center by the public will no longer be accepted, the sheriff’s office said.

This policy includes over-the-counter medications.

Authorities said the facility’s medical staff will acquire and dispense all necessary medications for inmates directly from approved pharmacies only.
