BASSETT, Va. (rbs news now) — The 22nd annual Jennifer Short Educational Scholarship Benefit Ride will take place on August 10.

Registration for the event starts at 10:30 a.m., with kickstands up at 12:30 p.m.

The ride is open to bikes, cars, and trucks, with a registration fee of $20.

Passengers can join for an additional $5.

The event, organized to honor the memory of Jennifer Short and support educational scholarships, will feature door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and a meal for participants.

The ride will start at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3739, located at 210 Mill Creek Drive in Bassett.

On August 15, 2002, Michael and Mary Short were tragically killed in Henry County, and their daughter, 9-year-old Jennifer Short, was abducted from her bed.

A massive search ensued, and weeks later, Jennifer’s remains were discovered near a North Carolina creek.

To date, the case remains open.
