DANVILLE, Va. (Romero Report) — Danville Parks and Recreation began a soft opening of the Doyle Thomas Park splash pad on July 15.

A news release said this will allow staff to observe equipment performance and conduct testing and training, which may result in intermittent shutdowns.

A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for July 19.

The splash pad at 827 Green Street will operate from Memorial Day to Labor Day, with hours from Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Admission is free.

“We are excited to have a soft opening of Danville’s second splash pad,” said Bill Sgrinia, Director of Danville Parks and Recreation. “We know that local residents will truly enjoy this addition to Doyle Thomas Park, which is already so well-loved.”

Looking ahead, parks and recreation said it has two upcoming park enhancements.

A splash pad at Ballou Park is currently under construction and expected to open by Memorial Day next year.

Additionally, Riverfront Park is expected to open by the end of this year, the release said.

“These developments reflect our ongoing commitment to enhancing parks and facilities and providing residents with safe, enjoyable spaces to gather and play,” Sgrinia added. “Each new addition aims to honor the history of Danville’s parks and facilities while looking forward to a vibrant future for the community.”
