SHORT PUMP, Va. (rbs news now) — Henry County Public Schools (HCPS) have received top honors in the 2024 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) state competitions.

In the Food for Thought competition, established in 2012 to address childhood hunger and promote healthier school meals, HCPS won in the “Meal Access to Fight Hunger” category for school divisions with a population below 10,000 students.

This competition, now in its 12th year, aims to educate, engage, and empower school leaders across Virginia, a news release said.

Additionally, the school division earned second place in the VSBA Excellence in Workforce Readiness Awards in the category for school divisions with a student population between 5,001 and 10,000.

This award recognized their Career Academy agrisciences program, highlighting the division’s initiatives in preparing students for the future workforce, the release said.

The VSBA Task Force on Workforce Readiness created this program in 2018 to celebrate innovative and effective workforce readiness programs in the commonwealth’s public schools.

These recognitions were announced at the VSBA Conference on Education held July 23 in Short Pump.
