DANVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A second man was arrested on July 24 for his involvement in two drive-by shootings that occurred almost two years ago.

On August 15, 2022, at around 5:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of North Avenue in Danville.

The investigation revealed that a gold SUV drove past a group of individuals in the area, and occupants of the SUV opened fire as they drove by.

A male individual from the group returned fire at the fleeing vehicle, according to police.

Later that evening, officers responded to the 2100 block of Riverside Drive for another report of shots fired.

Investigators said they determined that the same SUV involved in the North Avenue incident was also responsible for the Riverside Drive shooting.

Jaiden Daniel Franklin, 23, has been charged with two counts of felonious assault, two counts of shooting from a vehicle, two counts of use or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and one count of attempting to commit a noncapital offense.

Another suspect, Xzavion Issaih Smith, was arrested on August 16, 2022, for attempted malicious wounding, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

A 2022 GMC Terrain, identified in a news release from 2022, was later found burned and recovered in Pittsylvania County, according to authorities.
