MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Piedmont Arts invites the public to an opening reception for its new exhibits on August 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the museum.

The exhibits will be on display from August 10 to October 26, and admission is always free.

The Hooker Gallery will feature “History, Legends, and Fairytales” by Patricia Bellan-Gillen.

This exhibit showcases intricate line drawings, collages, and other mediums to create immersive experiences, a news release said.

Bellan-Gillen’s work combines imagery from reading, personal intuition, sacred art, children’s stories, and recent news.

She is a retired Carnegie Mellon University educator and lives in Washington County, Pennsylvania.

In the Pannill Gallery, “Lingering: Contemplations” by Jessica Bloch-Schulman will be displayed.

This collection of ceramic sculptures explores the female form, personal experiences, and universal emotions through psychological self-portraits, the release said.

Bloch-Schulman, a figurative ceramic sculptor, resides in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Lynwood Artists Gallery will present “A Life in the Blue Ridge” by Paula Melton.

Melton’s watercolors capture the beauty of mountain living.

The gallery is curated by Lynwood Artists, a local organization dedicated to promoting fine art and providing exhibition opportunities for artists in the Martinsville-Henry County area.

Complimentary wine and light refreshments will be served.

The event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required by August 6.

RSVPs can be made by calling the museum or online here.
