EDEN, N.C. (rbs news now) — The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said a local bomb squad safely disposed of a bomb on August 4.
A couple discovered a grenade in a ditch on their property on Smith Acres Road in Eden at around 8:30 a.m.
The grenade, which appeared old and rusted with its pin still intact, was found along with several rocks, apparently washed up by a heavy downpour the previous day, according to authorities.

The area was quarantined for safety, and deputies requested assistance from the Greensboro Police Department Bomb Squad Unit.
The bomb squad arrived and safely retrieved the grenade for disposal.
No injuries were reported.
