HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people following a traffic stop on August 7.

Deputies and the Narcotics Interdiction Unit conducted the stop near the Dollar General on Irisburg Road in Axton.

The vehicle was being driven by Charles Rydell Flood Jr., 33, of Figsboro Road, Martinsville and had one passenger, Elizabeth Taylor Mitchell, 20, of Blackberry Road in Bassett.

During the traffic stop, Flood and Mitchell got out the vehicle and Flood tried to run away but was apprehended a short distance away by deputies, according to authorities.

Mitchell was taken into custody at the store.

The sheriff’s office said a K9 assisted and alerted deputies to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle.

During a search, a gun, meth, fentanyl, and cash were found inside the vehicle.

The suspected narcotics will be sent to the for analysis.

Flood faces the following charges:

  • Probation violation (maliciously shoot into occupied dwelling)
  • Probation violation (possess firearm by felon)
  • Probation violation (possess controlled substance with intent to distribute, possess firearm by a convicted felon) Franklin County
  • Possession of a firearm by a violent felon
  • Possession of a firearm while possessing a Schedule I or II drug
  • Possession of a Schedule I or II drug with intent to distribute (methamphetamine)
  • Obstruction/resisting arrest
  • Driving with a revoked license

Mitchell was arrested on the following charges:

  • Three counts of assault & battery on a law enforcement officer
  • Possession of a Schedule I or II drug with intent to distribute (meth)
  • Obstruction

Both being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
