DANVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A charity motorcycle ride in memory of Ricky “Big Bird” Holcomb will be held on November 9.

This tradition has brought holiday joy to children in the area for nearly 32 years.

Holcomb, who passed away in February 2021, started the ride, and his legacy lives on through this event.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m., with kickstands up at 1 p.m.

The ride will start at Thunder Road Harley-Davidson, located at 4870 Riverside Drive in Danville, and end at Sportlanes, 10 Koehler Road, Martinsville.

Participants can look forward to a meal, live music by Madhouse, and an onsite auction featuring items from local businesses, including furniture from Bassett and jewelry from Eden Jewelry.

The cost is $20 per rider and $25 for doubles or an unwrapped toy.

Chad Hall, owner of BTW21, took on organizing the ride almost seven years ago as Holcomb’s health began to decline.

Since then, the event has continued to welcome vehicles of all types, with participants and supporters donating money, unwrapped toys, and auction items.

Last year, the ride raised more than $10,000 for Christmas Cheer of Martinsville-Henry County, a program that ensures local children have gifts to open during the holidays.

All proceeds from this year’s event will also go to Christmas Cheer, though it is unclear whether it will benefit the MHC program since the ride has expanded to Danville.

rbs news now reached out to Hall on July 31 but has not yet received a response regarding information on the event.
