MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — An August 13 ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of “Make-Your-Space Studios,” a new concept in workspaces in Uptown Martinsville.

The workspaces are located on the ground floor of the recently completed Fayette Street Lofts building.

The studios, aimed at small businesses, nonprofits, and artists, offer nine spaces ranging in size from 617 to 940 square feet, with monthly rents between $495 and $650.

The unveiling of these workspaces comes after the leasing of all 25 loft apartments in the building last month.

The building includes two street-front spaces designed for professional offices, retail stores, or walk-in dining.

These spaces, measuring 721 and 1,250 square feet, each boast their own street-level entrances.

The building was formerly a grocery store and later a furniture store.

This project follows two previous preservation efforts in the area: the Fieldale School Apartments and the School Drive Apartments in Collinsville.

The Martinsville-Henry County Historic Collective, which is behind these initiatives, is already planning their next major endeavor, “One Ellsworth,” which will bring 63 apartments and over 20,000 square feet of commercial space to Uptown Martinsville.

The historic seven-story former BB&T building will be repurposed for this project, with completion expected by mid-2026.
