
DANVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that took place on August 15 in Danville.
Marvin James Saunders, Jr., 25, has been charged with:
- Attempted malicious wounding.
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- Discharging a firearm in a public place
- Reckless handling of a firearm
- Brandishing a firearm
The incident began when Saunders allegedly fired a shot during an altercation with a 39-year-old man in the 200 block of North Main Street.
No one was injured, but a vehicle was hit by the gunfire.
According to police, all parties involved in the altercation were known to each other, and this was not a random act.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 5:15 p.m. and learned that Saunders had fled.
Two officers in separate police vehicles spotted Saunders driving a white Dodge pickup truck in the southbound lane of North Main Street.
While trying to catch up to Saunders with lights and sirens activated, one officer was involved in a crash at the intersection of West Thomas Street and North Main Street.
The driver and passenger of the other vehicle involved in the crash were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer was uninjured and the crash is under investigation.
A traffic stop was conducted on the Saunders’ vehicle shortly after the crash, leading to his arrest.
A firearm was seized during the stop and Saunders is currently being held in the city jail without bond.
The shooting incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Danville Police Department.
