PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of fake salespeople offering free carpet vacuuming or shampooing services.
Authorities say they have received multiple complaints about individuals posing as representatives of Kirby Vacuum Services, going door to door and offering the free services.
These individuals are not affiliated with the Kirby company and have not obtained the necessary certificates to conduct such activities in the county, according to the sheriff’s office.
One incident occurred on Green Pond Road in the Rhondo community, where a white male wearing jeans and a t-shirt was seen knocking on doors and leaving pamphlets.
The suspect was reportedly driving a dark-colored Cadillac Escalade that appeared to have been lowered.
In another incident on Grassland Drive in the Sandy Level community, a white female in a grey-colored Toyota truck with a camper shell was seen going door to door, asking residents if she could shampoo their carpets.
Authorities say they advise residents to turn these individuals away and inform them that law enforcement will be contacted.
If it can be done safely, residents are encouraged to obtain a description of the individuals, their vehicle, and its license plate number.
To report such incidents, residents are asked to contact the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office at 434-432-7931 or dial 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.
