HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A high-speed chase ended in an arrest and seizure of drugs in Henry County on August 16.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Interdiction Unit tried to stop a white Chrysler 300 on Summit Road, driven by Derrick Mananda Hairston, 47, of Kings Mill Road in Ridgeway.

Hairston refused to comply, leading deputies on a high-speed chase exceeding 100 miles per hour, according to authorities.

The pursuit ended on Carver Road when Hairston lost control of his vehicle, hit a guard rail and a concrete pillar before coming to rest in a ditch.

The sheriff’s office said Hairston resisted arrest and tried to flee but was taken into custody with help from a K9 unit.

During the search, deputies found an undisclosed amount of cocaine, marijuana, cash, and a cell phone, all consistent with narcotics distribution.

The suspected drugs will be sent off for analysis.

Hairston was arrested and charged with:

  • Felony eluding law enforcement
  • Driving under the influence of drugs,
  • Possession of Schedule I or II drugs with intent to distribute (2nd offense)
  • Obstruction
  • Following too closely

He is being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information regarding narcotics trafficking to contact them at 276-638-8751 or Crime Stoppers at 276-632-7463.
