HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A reckless driving incident that began in Henry County turned into a multi-jurisdictional high-speed chase on August 21.
Authorities received a report of a black Ford Mustang doing burnouts and speeding in the 15000 block of A.L. Philpott Highway at around 12:48 a.m.
The caller followed the Ford as it drove recklessly into Martinsville.
Martinsville Police tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver ignored the officers and sped away, initiating a pursuit through the city, a news release said.
The chase, which went through several streets, eventually led the officers to lose sight of the Ford near the intersection of Koehler Road and Appalachian Drive.
Through an investigation, authorities identified the vehicle as belonging to 21-year-old Ashton Blaze Wright, of Lee Ford Camp Road in Ridgeway.
Deputies went to Wright’s residence, where they found the Ford parked in the driveway with the engine running.
As deputies approached, Wright fled, leading them on another high-speed pursuit.
A release said the chase eventually made its way onto Route 87, with the Ford reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour as it crossed into North Carolina.
The pursuit ended on West Meadow Road in Eden, N.C., where a Henry County deputy successfully executed a precision immobilization technique, causing the vehicle to lose control and slide into an embankment.
Wright was taken into custody without further incident.
He faces multiple charges, including two counts of felony eluding police under, one for Henry County and another for Martinsville, as well as reckless driving in North Carolina.
Wright is currently held at the Rockingham County Adult Detention Center, awaiting extradition.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 276-632-7463.
