HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — The family of Harry D. Hensley, a longtime educator with Martinsville City Public Schools, has established a memorial scholarship fund.

The Harry D. Hensley Memorial Scholarship Fund at Patrick & Henry Community College aims to provide financial support to students pursuing higher education in honor of Hensley’s 43 years of service as a teacher.

“Patrick & Henry Community College Foundation is honored to assist the Hensley family in honoring Harry through a scholarship that will support his legacy of inspiring students to do great things,” said Tiffani Underwood, the P&HCC Foundation’s executive director.

Hensley, who passed away on August 22, was known for his dedication to education and his commitment to nurturing and inspiring students, the community college said in a news release.

Throughout his career, he fostered a love for learning and served as a mentor to many students and fellow educators.

The college said his contributions have had a lasting impact on the Martinsville community.

“We hope this scholarship fund will continue my father’s mission of supporting and inspiring students,” said Hensley’s daughter, Elizabeth Hensley Wood.

Those interested in contributing to the memorial scholarship fund, donations can be made by contacting the P&HCC Foundation offices at 276-656-0281.

Contributions can also be mailed to P&HCC Foundation, 645 Patriot Avenue, Martinsville, VA 24112, with “Harry D. Hensley Memorial Scholarship” noted in the memo line, or made online.
