HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) signed new articulation agreements with Ferrum College on August 29.

This will facilitate a seamless transfer process for students earning associate degrees to pursue bachelor’s degrees in business management or social work at Ferrum, a news release said.

Eligible students will also qualify for tuition benefits under the Panther Promise program.

The agreements specifically focus on Ferrum’s bachelor of science in business administration: sports management and the bachelor of social work degree programs.

Under these agreements, students who transfer with an associate degree from P&HCC can complete their bachelor’s degrees at Ferrum within two years.

The release said Ferrum College already accepts associate of arts and associate of science graduates from all Virginia community colleges, providing access to the Ferrum Promise for most majors.

Since 2019, the Ferrum Promise has guaranteed that students who transfer will have completed all general education requirements, allowing them to focus directly on their major coursework and finish their bachelor’s degree in two years.

If students do not complete their degree in this timeframe, Ferrum College will cover the remaining cost.

Students who meet specific criteria will also be eligible for the Panther Promise, which offers free tuition to qualifying Virginia residents.

“We are honored to partner with our colleagues at Ferrum—one of our students’ top transfer institutions—to ensure that the pathways for students who are working toward careers in social work and sports management are available in our area,” said P&HCC President Greg Hodges.

The memoranda of understanding affirm the institutions’ shared goal of fostering educational collaboration and enhancing academic opportunities for students, the release said.

“By uniting our strengths, we are creating pathways that empower students to achieve their dreams while forging connections that will uplift our entire region,” Ferrum College President Mirta Martin said. “Together, we are not only shaping the future of education but also building a brighter, stronger community for generations to come.”
