HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A crash in Henry County claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman and resulted in the driver being charged.

The crash occurred on September 6 at around 3:43 p.m. on Chatham Road near Lawrence Drive.

A 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Jason S. Bethea, was going west when it veered off the right side of the road, according to the Virginia State Police.

State Police said Bethea overcorrected, causing the vehicle to strike a guardrail before colliding with a tree.

The passenger, Khyrra Michelle Martin, of Ridgeway, was wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

Bethea was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries and had since been charged with reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation.
