HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A juvenile has been arrested after they called in a threat to a Henry County elementary school.

On September 10, G.W. Carver Elementary School got a threatening phone call, prompting a precautionary partial lockdown.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office said it launched an investigation and began tracing the origin of the threat.

By September 11, investigators, with assistance from the Chesterfield County Police Department, identified a juvenile suspect from Chester.

The juvenile has been charged in connection with the incident and is currently held at the Chesterfield County Juvenile Detention Center.

Due to the suspect’s age, authorities said their name will not be released.

The juvenile faces charges threatening to bomb and use of profane, threatening, or indecent language.

The investigation is ongoing.


HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A phone threat at an elementary school in Henry County lead to a precautionary partial lockdown.

The call was received just before 2 p.m. on September 10 at G.W. Carver Elementary School.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the school and assisted with the dismissal of students.

School officials confirmed that there was no immediate danger to students or staff, Captain Sandy Hines, head of the investigations division at the sheriff’s office, said in a news release.

“Recent tragedies at schools around the country have heightened everyone’s concern for the safety of students,” Captain Hines wrote. “The Henry County Sheriff’s Office takes every threat to our school system serious and we will work diligently to bring those responsible for disrupting our schools to justice. Please remind them that if they become aware of a concern to alert school administration and/or the school resource officer so that it can be dealt with quickly.”

The sheriff’s office and Henry County Public Schools are actively investigating the origin of the threat.

The situation remains under investigation.
