HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A 15-year-old girl has been arrested and charged after making a threat of a school shooting on Instagram.

On September 24, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police received information about the online threat targeting Martinsville City Public Schools.

Deputies and special agents said they launched an investigation in the early morning hours before the start of the school day.

The investigation led authorities to the female teen residing in Henry County, who confessed to posting the threat.

The teen has been charged with threats of death or bodily injury to persons on school property and is currently being held at the W.W. Moore Juvenile Detention Facility.

Authorities said they urge parents to have open conversations with their children about the importance of reporting any threats they may hear, and the serious legal repercussions of participating in these acts.
