MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) —The MLC Cancer Foundation will host “A Pink Event – Wellness Symposium & Fundraiser” on October 19.
The event will be held starting at 3 p.m. at New College Institute, 191 Fayette Street in Martinsville.
It will honor cancer survivors while raising funds to support mammographic breast screenings, diagnostics for uninsured women, financial assistance for cancer treatments, and health and wellness education.
The symposium will feature an “I CAN” panel discussion where community members will share personal health journeys, keynote speakers Dr. Nayo Wills and Shaune Hayes, and the announcement of a $5,000 grant to support local health initiatives.
Attendees will have the chance to win a $1,500 prize towards their health and wellness journey and receive genetic health screenings.
MLC Cancer Foundation, founded by Patricia Via in 2012, says it has provided nearly $120,000 in funds to cancer patients and continues to support the community through events and educational initiatives.
“My mother, father and many other relatives have been diagnosed with cancer, and unfortunately many have lost their cancer battle,” Via said. “I am a 14-year breast cancer survivor, and my platform via the MLC Cancer Foundation is to assist others who receive a cancer diagnosis and to touch as many of their lives as possible,” she said.
