MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — Piedmont Arts invites the public to an opening reception for its new exhibits on November 8 at 5:30 p.m.

The exhibits, which will be on display from November 9 to January 11, are free and open to the public.

“Art of the Quilt,” curated by master quilter Linda M. Fiedler and quilter Betty Blessin, will showcase works by over 40 artists from the Southeast.

This year’s exhibit, themed “ex-per-i-ment,” will feature hand- and machine-stitched quilts, contemporary textiles, and two group challenges.

A news release said the challenges focus on reimagining the Alamance Rose quilt pattern and creating designs inspired by words beginning with “Re.”

In the Lynwood Artists Gallery, quilts from the Virginia Foothills Quilters Guild will also be on display.

This biennial exhibition includes wearables, wall hangings, and traditional bed coverings.

During the exhibit, a quilt donated by Karen Despot and crafted by members of the Virginia Foothills Quilters Guild will be raffled off to support Piedmont Arts exhibits.

Raffle tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the museum located at 215 Starling Avenue or online.

Complimentary wine and light refreshments will be served.

RSVP is required by November 8 and can be made by calling the museum at 276-632-3221 or online.
