HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A high-speed chase across two counties ended with an arrest on October 19.

At around 9:51 p.m., a Henry County deputy initiated a traffic stop on a 2002 GMC Sierra towing a trailer near the intersection of Fairystone Park Highway and Crestview Road in Bassett.

The driver, identified as Daniel Sparrow, 42, of Cedar Cove Lane in Spout Spring, ignored the emergency lights and sirens, sped away and a pursuit started.

Sparrow traveled at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles on the wrong side of Fairystone Park Highway and heading toward Patrick County.

The pursuit continued onto Woolwine Highway and Jeb Stuart Highway, with Sparrow driving into oncoming traffic and forcing several vehicles off the road, according to authorities.

Patrick County deputies attempted several Precision Immobilization Technique maneuvers, but the attempts were unsuccessful due to the trailer Sparrow was towing and the high speeds involved.

During the chase, Sparrow contacted Patrick County 9-1-1 center, threatening self-harm and stating he would not stop for law enforcement.

The chase returned to Henry County and in the 1900 block of A.L. Philpott Highway deputies forced Sparrow off the road to end the pursuit.

Sparrow was arrested and charged with felony eluding, possession of cocaine (Schedule II substance), driving while intoxicated, and resisting arrest.

Additionally, he had an outstanding warrant for a probation violation from Buckingham County.

He is currently being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 276-632-7463.
