HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — An armed crisis involving an elderly woman ended peacefully in Henry County on October 22.

Around 9:30 a.m., deputies responded to the 900 block of Mica Road for a wellbeing check after family members expressed concerns about the woman’s mental state and potential medical issues.

The woman was reported to be armed and in crisis.

When deputies got there and tried to engage with the woman, she pulled out a firearm, according to authorities.

The SWAT team, crisis negotiations team, and drone/robotics team were called to the scene to manage the situation.

After about three and a half hours of negotiations and communication efforts, a drone was deployed into the residence to assist in the resolution.

The elderly woman was taken into custody safely without further incident.

She was evaluated by the Henry County Department of Public Safety and then transported to SOVAH Health in Martinsville for medical treatment.

The Sheriff’s Office thanked the Virginia Department of Transportation, Virginia State Police, Piedmont Community Services, Henry County Public Safety, and Mica Road Baptist Church for their assistance.
