HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — ANCHOR Commission’s Lee Ford Camp recently installed a 20-foot handicap ramp at its Kiwanis Lodge, thanks to support from community partners.

The new ramp enables easier access to the lodge, making the camp more accessible for all visitors, a news release said.

“The most requested need we receive from people who use Lee Ford Camp is a handicap ramp,” said Ricky Walker, Executive Director of ANCHOR Commission. “ANCHOR is appreciative of the efforts of these community partners to work together to make this happen. We are incredibly thankful for their support.”

The First Baptist Church of Collinsville provided labor for the ramp’s construction, with Walker highlighting their commitment to “being the hands and feet of Christ.”

Lester Building Supply contributed materials, and the Martinsville Kiwanis Club, a longtime supporter, aided in organizing the project, the release said.

Located on 17 acres on Lee Ford Camp Road in Ridgeway, the camp features a 1.5-acre lake, picnic areas, a large lodge, bunkhouses, a small cabin, camping spots, and a climbing tower.

The camp serves groups including boy scouts, girl scouts, the boys and girls club, and church youth groups, and hosted nearly 2,500 visitors in 2023.
