MARTINSVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — The Martinsville-Henry County YMCA announced on October 28 a $500,000 donation from Carter Bank.

The donation was made toward the Transforming Community capital campaign, which is aimed at building a new state-of-the-art YMCA facility.

This contribution will support expanded health and wellness services, enhanced youth and family programs, and upgraded community spaces, a news release said.

“Our commitment to helping people live life to the fullest aligns perfectly with the Martinsville-Henry County YMCA’s dedication to giving people of all walks of life the opportunity to reach their full potential,” Carter Bank CEO Litz Van Dyke said. “By supporting the new facility, we’re not making an investment to the building, we’re making an investment into our community and increasing opportunities for people in Martinsville and Henry County to prosper.”

Martinsville-Henry County YMCA Executive Director Brad Kinkema thanked the bank’s long-standing support.

“We are grateful for this donation as it represents a critical investment in the future of our YMCA and the thousands of individuals who rely on our services and participate in our programs that promote mental and physical wellness, personal development, and social connections,” Kinkema said.

The new Lester Family YMCA will be constructed on a seven-acre site near Memorial Boulevard and Fayette Street in Martinsville.

It will feature a large fitness center, three full-court gymnasiums, an indoor aquatic center, an elevated walking track, group exercise areas, an early learning center, community rooms, and outdoor amenities.
