PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A motorcycle crash claimed a man’s life on October 27 in Pittsylvania County’s Ringgold community.

Virginia State Police said it happened at around 5:25 p.m. when a 2002 Harley Davidson, going south on Childress Road near Milton Highway, veered off the left side of the road, struck a ditch, and overturned.

The driver, identified as Stephen Lee Wingate, 52, of Ringgold, was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to state police.

Wingate was transported to SOVAH Health in Danville, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
