PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Patrick County man is in custody on charges of attempted murder following an altercation with his father.

Deputies were dispatched around 1:21 p.m. to a disturbance call at a residence on Clark House Farm Road in Stuart.

Upon arrival, deputies found Eric William Walker, 28, outside the home.

An investigation indicates that Walker and his father were arguing before it escalated into a physical confrontation.

Walker left the home, pulled out a bottle of suspected lighter fluid, and then went back into the house, where he poured the fluid on his father and tried to ignite it, according to Lieutenant Steve Austin.

Lieutenant Austin said the father managed to escape to a neighbor’s house, with Walker in pursuit, breaking a window in an attempt to reach him.

Walker was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with attempted murder, property damage, and public intoxication.

He is currently held at the Patrick County Jail without bond.
