HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people on November 6 following a standoff.
Deputies had initially arrived at a residence on Woodhaven Road to arrest a wanted individual when they encountered resistance from a barricaded suspect.
Deputies tried to serve arrest warrants at the home, where they found Samuel Dewey Franklin Jr., 37, barricaded inside and refusing to comply with commands to exit.
The SWAT and crisis negotiations teams were called to assist.
Authorities successfully established communication with April Michelle Cannoy, 44, who was also wanted on an outstanding charge and was inside the residence.
Cannoy peacefully exited and was taken into custody without incident.
Despite prolonged negotiations, Franklin continued to refuse surrender.
To resolve the situation, the SWAT team deployed chemical munitions into the home, which led to Franklin’s surrender.
Franklin, of the address, was taken into custody on multiple charges, including three counts of failure to appear and obstruction of justice.
Cannoy, of Riverside Drive in Bassett, was arrested on a probation violation.
Both are being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.
