PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A Stuart man is in custody following an altercation that left a Patrick County deputy injured on November 8.

Michael Paul McAdams, 29, was arrested and faces charges of obstruction of justice by force, assault on a law enforcement officer, destruction of property, and interfering with the property rights of another.

The incident began around 6 a.m. when authorities got a call regarding a suspicious man outside a residence on Spring Road in Patrick Springs.

Senior Deputy Noah Wolfe responded and found McAdams trying to break into the basement of the home.

As Wolfe tried to arrest McAdams, the suspect reportedly resisted, leading to a physical struggle.

During the altercation, Wolfe sustained a broken collarbone when both men fell to the ground, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

Despite his injury, Wolfe managed to keep McAdams pinned down until Senior Deputy Doug Perry arrived to handcuff the McAdams.

Wolfe was treated at SOVAH Health in Martinsville and released later that day.

Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith reported that Wolfe faces a six- to eight-week recovery period.

“At this point, we are hoping that surgery can be avoided, and we are grateful that it wasn’t worse,” Sheriff Smith said in the post. “Sadly, officers are killed weekly across our nation in scenarios identical to this.”

McAdams is currently held without bond at the county jail.
