HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 19 marked the official unveiling of the new Fitness Court at the Smith River Sports Complex in Henry County.
The project is a partnership between the National Fitness Campaign in Virginia, sponsored by Aetna, and Henry County Parks & Recreation.
The Fitness Court offers an outdoor gym experience, featuring seven exercise stations that allow individuals to use their body weight for a full workout.
Designed for participants aged 14 and older and adaptable to all fitness levels, the facility promotes equitable access to high-quality exercise opportunities, according to officials.
“Aetna is committed to the health and wellness of the members and communities we serve,” said Bill Deal, market head, public and labor, Aetna. “The path to wellness starts by getting people engaged in their own health. The Fitness Court is an innovative, challenging and fun way to provide opportunity and empower people on their path to good health.”
The court also integrates digital wellness programming through the free Fitness Court app, which acts as a virtual coach.
Officials said the app guides users through exercises and enhances their outdoor fitness experience.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to expand access to fitness and wellness across Virginia.
The Fitness Court is located at 1000 Irisburg Road in Axton and is open to the public.
