ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (rbs news now) — Authorities are searching for a man following a high-speed pursuit that started in Rockingham County and crossed into Virginia on November 21.

At around 7:35 p.m., a deputy tried to stop a motorcycle going south on N.C. 14 near Fisher Hill Road.

The deputy initiated the stop after seeing a traffic violation that nearly caused a collision with another vehicle, according to authorities.

The motorcyclist fled at a high rate of speed, leading the deputy into Henry County via Morgan Ford Road.

The pursuit ended when the motorcycle veered off the road in the 4300 block of Morgan Ford Road and into a wooded area behind a residence.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy found the motorcycle abandoned about 50 yards into the woods, but the rider had fled on foot.

With help from Virginia authorities, a search of the area was conducted, but the operator, identified as Cody Warren Purdy, 34, of Eden, was not found.

Purdy faces charges related to the pursuit and is also wanted on multiple outstanding warrants predating the incident.

Authorities ask anyone with information on Purdy’s whereabouts to call 9-1-1 or their local law enforcement.

Anonymous tips can be submitted to Rockingham County Crime Stoppers at 336-349-9683.

Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
