ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (rbs news now) — Human skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area in Rockingham County on December 1.
A property owner reportedly found the remains while walking their property lines in the 7900 block of U.S. Highway 158 West.
Deputies and the medical examiner responded to the scene to begin an investigation.
At this time, the identity of the deceased individual has not been confirmed, and it remains unclear whether foul play was involved, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.
The remains have been sent for testing to determine the individual’s identity as well as the time and cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities ask anyone with information to contact them.
