FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now)— A man was killed in a December 7 crash in Franklin County.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:25 a.m. on Route 220 at the intersection with Southside Drive.

According to Virginia State Police, a 2017 Jeep Liberty was going south on Route 220 when it ran off the right side of the road, overturned, and hit a tree.

The driver, Erick Keith Custis, 52, of Charleston, S.C., was wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

Investigators said they determined that speed was a factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
