DANVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — A man who escaped from a mental health institution in Danville is now in custody.

Hunter Bryce Long, III, was apprehended without incident in the 2300 block of West Main Street near Dollar General less than three hours after escaping.

This incident remains under investigation.

Danville Police said they appreciate the public’s help in locating Long after receiving several tips about his whereabouts.

DANVILLE, Va. (rbs news now) — The Danville Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating an escaped man.

Hunter Bryce Long III, 22, escaped from the Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute on Taylor Drive around 3:55 p.m. on December 13.

Long had been charged with assaulting a Danville Police officer on November 6, and is considered dangerous.

Authorities have not determined if he is armed.

Long was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, a royal blue sweatshirt with “SVMHI” written on the side, gray sweatpants, and black shoes.

Residents are urged not to approach Long if they see him and instead, immediately call 9-1-1.

The Danville Police Department is actively searching for Long and ask anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the department.
