
PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — A crash in Pittsylvania County left three juveniles with life-threatening injuries.
The Virginia State Police reported that the incident occurred just before 3 p.m. on January 2 when an SUV lost control and overturned.
Crews from the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department and Chatham Rescue were dispatched to the scene in the 15,000 block of U.S. Highway 29 near Halifax Road.
Upon arrival, first responders said they discovered that all three occupants had been ejected from the vehicle and requested two helicopters for emergency transport.
Centra One and Air Life 1 landed on the southbound side of the highway to airlift the 13- and 15-year-old victims, while the 17-year-old was transported by ambulance.
Blairs Fire and Rescue, Pittsylvania County Public Safety, and Chatham Police Department assisted with traffic control and emergency operations.
In a Facebook post, the fire department said, “We continue to urge everyone to wear your seatbelts.”
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
