HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — The Henry County Board of Supervisors elected its leadership for the upcoming year during its annual organizational meeting on January 6.

Jim Adams, who represents the Blackberry District, was selected to serve as chairman.

“I am grateful for the continued trust and support of my fellow supervisors,” said Adams, who was selected to lead the board for the twelfth time during his 23-year tenure. “This board has always worked together with a shared commitment to the betterment of our community. Together, we have faced challenges and celebrated successes, and I look forward to another year of collaboration and progress.”

Joe Bryant, of the Collinsville District, was chosen as vice-chairman, marking his fourth term in the role since his 2021 re-election.

“I am truly honored to accept the nomination as vice-chairman,” Bryant said. “Over the years, I’ve witnessed our county grow and evolve in ways that fill me with pride, and it’s been a privilege to serve in a leadership capacity during such an exciting time. The progress we’ve made is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone on this board. I look forward to continuing our efforts in the coming year.”

In other matters, the board:

  • Set the regular meeting dates for 2025. The board will meet every fourth Tuesday in the month except December, when the board chose to meet on December 16 to avoid scheduling conflicts with the holidays
  • Adopted the board’s bylaws for 2025, including changes to the board’s policy on remote attendance
  • Adopted the budget calendar for the fiscal year 2025-2026 county budget
  • Scheduled its 2025 planning session for February 13 from 3-7 p.m.
  • Approved the sale of the old Henry County School Bus Garage to Meeks Commercial Properties, LLC, and set a public hearing on the sale for January 28, 2025
