HENRY COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — An early morning fire destroyed a home in the 700 block of Dogwood Drive in Axton.

The blaze occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on January 10.

The Axton Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, with assistance from the Dyer Store Volunteer Fire Department and Henry County Public Safety.

No injuries were reported, and the American Red Cross is assisting those affected, according to firefighters.

“My understanding is that it started from a wood-burning heater in the living room,” Henry County Fire Marshal Kiah Cooper told rbs news now.

Cooper noted that his office was not contacted to investigate the fire.

Axton Fire is leading the investigation into the cause.
