PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (rbs news now) — Firefighters and community members came together to rescue a horse that had been down for several hours.

On the scene, crews found the horse unable to stand on her own.

Initial attempts to assist the animal to her feet were unsuccessful, as she lacked the strength to rise under her own power.

Other local horse owners arrived with a tractor to assist.

Using a large harness and the tractor, rescuers were able to lift the horse to her feet.

Once the animal regained her balance, she was able to walk around independently.

The Stuart Volunteer Fire Department, equipped with the county’s rope rescue trailer, and the Fairystone Volunteer Fire Department provided additional support.

Firefighter Scottie Emerson, a large animal rescue specialist from North Carolina, also responded to assist in the effort.

“This is a great example of multiple resources and community members coming together for a very positive outcome,” the Patrick Springs Volunteer Fire Department wrote in a Facebook post.
